It is not always the product or idea that is responsible for a company’s demise. If you want your company to enjoy consistent growth and success, you’ll need a little luck, a good product or service, solid financial planning and a great team of employees to help you get there. Most importantly, you will need the leadership to keep it all running smoothly. Without proper leadership in place, your company will never reach its full potential and your odds of failing are dramatically increased.
Traits of a Good Business Leader:
The vision and ability to focus on the big picture in their company’s future without getting tied down into day to day micro management.
Understanding the company vision and have the ability to implement a game plan, make it happen and stay on course.
Someone who does not allow themselves to become short-sighted or focused on and consumed with day to day processes. They manage the processes rather than becoming part of the process.
Someone always eager to learn; they encourage and welcome new ideas and feedback from those around them including employees, other managers, customers, and outside sources.
A good leader is one who understands the presence of confirmation bias in the decision making process and challenges every major decision by using a logical, systematic process to assure that non-biased logical decisions are the norm.
A good leader must be able to communicate their expectations clearly to the rest of the company.
The Traits of a Great Business Leader
The difference between a good leader and a great leader is having that added ability to stay positive and motivate the people you are around. This doesn’t mean you need to be a world-class motivational speaker. It does mean that you need to understand the importance of keeping a positive attitude around your team, especially when times are difficult.
Great leaders always step up to the plate during difficult situations. While it can be easy to let negative situations get you down, great leaders assess the situation, adapt and move on by utilizing the situation as an opportunity to learn, grow and improve- using their leadership as fuel to motivate and challenge their team. When leaders react to negative situations in this way, it reflects a sign of confidence, strength, and control in their abilities. It is in this way that a great leader has an ability to earn respect instead of demand it. It is this type of leader who doesn't just meet expectations, they exceed them. This type of leadership is contagious and not only makes everyone around them better employees, but better people.
